World Population Day
11 July 2017
On the instance of Population Day, in last two days, from Politicians to Sports persons lecturing on Population Growth and claiming that Population is a cause of all problems in India. At present, is India's Population Growth is a cause of all problems? I Say "No". This victim blaming attitude of us continuing: Poor is the cause of poverty, literacy is the cause of inefficiency, laziness, and woman education is the cause of unemployment.
I come back to the question again: At present, is India's Population Growth is a cause of all problems? Prof. James and I tried to answer this question in one of our recent piece in Brown Journal of World Affairs. The central point of our argument is “India’s Demographic transition, especially in terms of fertility is much faster than its socio-economic transition, thus, it needs to invest more in social sector schemes, in particularly “women’s empowerment, health, education, and employment generation and social security” to come out of some of the serious problem facing by the country and reap the demographic advantage, instead of blaming it.
